Over the last week, there’s been a great series in The New York Times about one of its reporters who was kidnapped and held by the Taliban in Pakistan for more than seven months. The reporter, David Rohde, eventually escaped. It’s fascinating. Read here.
COINCIDENTALLY>> For some reason, the Winter 2006 issue of the Oxford American magazine just came in the mail in a special envelope. Interestingly, it included a story about 10 new emerging Southern writers. Oddly, a Sunday story in The New York Times magazine about writer Padgett Powell suggested that most current American writing was dull.
